Friends at Work
Donations from the Friends of Larkspur Library work every day of the week to enrich the life of our community members. Funds from Friends are used to bring programs to the library for children and adults, from StoryTime for toddlers to issues on aging, covering a wide range of cultural and professional interests. FOLL has solicited and supplied prizes to encourage the hundreds of readers who participate in the library’s Summer Reading Program. The Friends’ Laundromat Library supplies books for young readers in three local laundromats. We also give books for the families served by Welcoming Home. Enrichment and outreach are our mission. This is how we roll.
Summer Reading Program
Thanks to these generous donors for underwriting the annual Larkspur Library Summer Reading Program
Laundromat Library
What could be better than a new book to enjoy while your mom or dad does the laundry? The Friends of Larkspur Library has partnered with iDoLaundry in Larkspur in two locations at (469 Magnolia Avenue and 594 Magnolia Avenue) to make books available to children as part of this weekly chore.
Why the laundromat? Laundromats are ideal places to find and engage with busy families who may need educational resources. Laundromats are safe, well-lit, and temperature-controlled spaces. Parents generally return weekly to their local laundromats and their children often wait an average of 90 minutes as the family laundry is washed, dried, and folded. Offering a selection of children’s books is an engaging alternative to boredom or electronic gadgets. Through book donations from Copperfield’s Books at their Larkspur and San Rafael stores, FOL is able to make the books free to all. Thank you, Copperfield’s!
Welcoming Home support
In Marin county, Welcoming Home project furnishes new homes for people who are transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. The Friends provide books primarily for children as these families arrive at their new homes.
